The seeker must go into another existence of spiritual desire, virtue, and dedication. Then only the Christ-soul must take its birth in the world of his heart. In the above story of the significance of Christmas, we have mentioned the story of Jesus birth. Christmas is celebrated in December by large numbers of people all around the world. We celebrate Christmas on the birth of Jesus Christ. Not all people celebrate Christmas.

The exact date of Jesus birth is unknown as Bible does not specify the date of his birth or conception of Jesus. But in the second century A.D., a Roman Christian historian named Sextus Julius Africanus calculated Jesus’ birthdate to be December 25 (nine months after Africanus believed Jesus was conceived).

When Sextus Julius Africanus declare it the Roman culture was already celebrating Saturnalia 25 December, the winter solstice. The Festival is honored Saturn, the god of agriculture. They were celebrating it with merriment, feasting and giving gifts. In the 4th century, Rome instituted Christianity as their culture. To make it more beautiful, the church converted Saturnalia to a Christian holiday. This Christian holiday was dedicated to Jesus birth.

It may be a matter of conscience for some, for as Paul states in 1 Corinthians 10:23: “‘Everything is permissible’—but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible’—but not everything is constructive”. There are many others who believe the holiday has been redeemed due to the deeper meaning. These individuals continue to celebrate Christmas based on Paul’s words further on in the passage: “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (verse 31).

Christmas Tree as we find it in every Christian home during Christmas Eve. The modern Christmas tree originated in Germany. But the Germans got it from the Romans, who got it from the Babylonians and the Egyptians.

It is been said that people in Babylon believe in Christmas tree. “An old Babylonish fable told of an evergreen tree which sprang out of a dead tree stump. The old stump symbolized the dead Nimrod, the new evergreen tree symbolized that Nimrod had come to life again in Tammuz !  Among the Druids the oak was sacred, among the Egyptians it was the palm, and in Rome, it was the first, which was decorated with red berries during the Saturnalia!” (Walsh, Curiosities of Popular Customs, p. 242).

In Bible, Chrismas word is not mentioned. Some people states that Christmas is not the part of the bible is only because it is not the way word wish to worship him. Some say that in original Bible they have mentioned about the Jesus and Christmas. But early priests had clear it as they want people should worship them.

But Christmas tree is directly mentioned in Bible. Turn to Jeremiah 10:2-5, “Thus says the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen…For the customs of the people are vain: for one cuts a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. They are upright as the palm tree but speak not: they must need to be borne because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.”

Frederick J. Haskin’s Answers to Questions states, “The Christmas tree is from Egypt, and its origin dates from a period long anterior to the Christmas Era.”
